Brigid Dagenfield LCPC

I help empower individuals who are struggling with disruption in their life to identify and overcome challenges and to achieve their therapeutic goals. I partner with adults and young adults to manage a wide range of challenges, often related to substance abuse, trauma, mood disorders, relationship issues, work stress, and life transitions. Clients enjoy working with me because I am an advocate for them and a source of stability, education and encouragement.

I believe in a holistic, integrative approach to therapy that works with your life. At times we’ll utilize skills and techniques drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Dialectical Behavior Therapy, other times we’ll use Motivational Interviewing or work from a strengths-based approach, or we may use EMDR to reprocess a traumatic experience. But always, working with me will feel like a team effort in finding the right tools that work best for you. I am trauma-informed in my approach to therapy, interweaving the values of choice, empowerment, collaboration, safety, and trustworthiness into each and every one of our sessions.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Loyola University Chicago, studying Psychology with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. After two years working in the field of philanthropy, I reconnected with my passion for mental health and continued my education, receiving a masters degree from Boston University School of Medicine in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine. I returned to Chicago and worked in a variety of mental health settings ranging from providing therapy to individuals within the Cook County jail system to providing phone-based support, case management and crisis intervention as a clinician for an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). These educational and professional experiences have allowed me to connect with a broad range of individuals and informed my approach to therapy in my present role as a therapist in private practice.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me with my two young children in tow! I also love animals, and value my time spent riding horses. Staying active is a primary form of self-care for me and if I’m not on the move, I’m at home curled up with a book, sharing a delicious meal with family or friends or attending a live concert or the latest art exhibition at one of Chicago’s amazing museums.
